Feeling Silly

The two peas woke up still feeling exhausted, but hoisted themselves out of bed anyway with sheer determination and got all ready for school. The wife drove the hubby to the train and then headed to school thinking she had everything she needed: healthy snacks, class book, paper for notes, pens, wallet, and key fob. And then she got home and realized the garage door, along with every other door, was locked (as usual). She had a fob for the car, but no house keys! What was she thinking this morning (was she even thinking...probably not because she was half asleep)! The hubby wouldn't get home until.... FOUR HOURS LATER?! But she needs the food, the lou, the comfort of a bed on which to sleep 'cause she was still so tired.

The wife drove to the local Wal-mart for a bathroom and a few little things she remembered she needed. (Yes, a tasty chocolate and minty snack was purchased, but just one bag. Promise. And it was okay because most of the tasty treats were for other people anyway.) Then she drove back home and hung out in the car which she parked in the driveway (until people began taking pictures of the license plate probably because they were suspicious of her activities...in her own driveway...in front of her house...thanks for being vigilant, though).

When the hubby came home, he rescued his wife from the confines of the garage and the car, for which service the wife was extremely grateful.

Note to self: lesson learned; remember ALL of your keys.

A Sad Day Turned Happy

Remember that big test for Wednesday? Although the wife did pretty well, and studied her mind raw for it, she did not achieve the score she was hoping, which might hamper some near future plans. On top of that, she received her first citation ever. Yep! And she got it while she was on her way to take that test. Forlorn, tired, and depressed, the wife came home and turned into a blubbering heap. Then the hubby came home and scooped that blubbering heap up. Blubbering heap and hubby went and put together a delicious dinner, watched a movie, and talked and laughed. Slowly, the wife became herself again with a new and energetic plan. Tired and smiling, the two peas went to sleep and remembered nothing but a wonderful day.

It might be said that life gave the wife one big heaping spoonful of bitter cocoa yesterday. When the hubby came home, he helped her make several servings of delicious hot chocolate, and now that's all she can remember.

A Valentine's Weekend Story

Since the wife had several exams coming up, and one mighty big exam next Wednesday, she was thinking the two peas would not really get a Valentine's Day or weekend. Too much studying, she thought. What are we to do? They got up Saturday morning, and while the wife went to school the hubby thought up a plan. He biked to the local Walmart and bought beautiful roses, straightened things up a bit, and got dressed up. The wife, feeling forlorn on her way home thinking Valentine's would not come, walked through the door and was greeted by a dashing hubby, beautiful flowers, and a great big kiss! The wife was glad when she found she had some chocolate to give and kisses too. Valentine's came. It came with thought, care, and time to share. The End.

How to be Totally....miserable? happy?

These two peas are very aware that opposites exist in all things, and perhaps in all places too. In the hearty land of Texas, we've enjoyed the weather you'd expect - a balmy 18 degrees Farenheit with gusting winds and little pellets of snow blasting at the windows and doors. In our quest to enjoy life to it's fullest, I've been consulting a fabulous little book by John Bytheway entitled, How to be Totally Miserable. In the book, he compares miserable and happy people, and to illustrate the principle avoid adventure, he wrote, "Happy people love to try new things. [...] When the power goes out, they gather flashlights and tell stories on the couch. If they get caught in a cloudburst, they jump in puddles and sing in the rain!" I haven't thought about this principle in a while, but this past Friday we totally lived it! School was canceled, snow and cold were everywhere, and we made a horrible weather day into one of the funnest dates ever. We made a little snowman and snow angels, and watched movies while we drank dark mint hot chocolate. We documented this awesome occasion. We didn't do the miserable thing, I know, but we enjoyed the resulting smiles and laughs. Just remember, next time life gives you bitter cocoa, say thank you and make hot chocolate to share.

This flower looks so beautiful encased in the ice.

Hot mint (and dark) chocolate. Yumm!

We made spiced-up, grown-up mac n' cheese for dinner!

Train Tracks in the Snow

When we woke up this morning, we were completely amazed to find our cul-de-sac covered in about three inches of snow. Under that, the roads are iced over. And after dropping hubby off at the train, the snow started falling. It's still falling.... It looks like a perfect winter wonderland!

The tire tracks in the snow reminded me of all the times I pretended to be a train when I was a child. When it snowed, I dressed in my fuzzy one piece snow suit and snow boots, and I would then run around through all of the car tracks making train noises. My train would stop and gather passengers, take a right at the fork in the tracks, and chug on back to my house when I was finally cold through and through. Well, today I did just that. I threw on my winter gear and walked through car tracks, my camera in hand to snap shot my silliness. And when my toes were sufficiently frozen - it didn't take long - I was back inside enjoying the fireplace and feeling perfectly satisfied with my walk down memory lane. Perhaps tonight, hubby and I will make a snowman for date night.

"The snow is snowin', the wind is blowin'...."

Here we are in the hearty land of Texas enjoying a beautiful day of pajama wearing. That's right! The temperature has dropped to below freezing, it's windy like nobody's business outside, and the roads are covered (and let us just emphasize that all of the roads are covered, including the driveway) in a thick sheet of ice. These two peas are just excited that classes have been canceled (more for the sake of our lives, really).

Don't be fooled; I'm not standing on snow. That there be frozen solid, white ice. And very slippery, I might add.

The wind has piled some snow at the back door.

We won't be finishing this garden project for a while.
